Title: Staff Nurse – Recovery Nurse

Position Overview:

The recovery room nurse provides direct nursing care for anesthetized patients during the perioperative period. Works in conjunction with the anesthesia team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Duties include initiating IV and monitoring patients when they are still under the effects of anesthesia. Patient observation is an essential role of the recovery room nurse. Regularly, take part in the patient’s vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and perfusion status. The RR RN is expected to treat and address all and any abnormal vital findings within their scope of practice.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State where services are provided.
• · Advanced Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) in good standing.
• · BLS Provider specializing in Basic Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. American Red Cross (ARC) CPR for Professional Rescuers card will be accepted upon hire but renewal must be a BLS Provider card from AHA.
• · PACU, ICU, or acute care experience preferred.
• · Ability to start IVs
  
  DUTIES

• Administers medications, IVs, and treatments; maintains records regarding dispensing of same; observes patient’s reactions to them and acts appropriately in the event of an adverse reaction.
• Closely observes and assesses the post-op patient by monitoring vital signs per protocol and documents the patient’s progress while in the recovery area.
• Assists with the transfer of patients in the procedure room, as time permits.
• Assists with turnover and terminal cleaning of the procedure room, as time permits.
• Maintains familiarity with equipment and supplies, including the function, location, and necessary upkeep of each item.
• In an emergency, uses BLS and ACLS skills for resuscitation.
• Provides discharge teaching as appropriate.
• Recognizes and utilizes safety precautions and procedures including adherence to established standards of infection control
• Maintains a comfortable, orderly, clean, and safe environment in the recovery area
• Participates in Quality Assurance activities
• Assumes responsibility for attending staff meetings, in-services, and required continuing education programs that promote professional growth in the delivery of health care services
• Performs other duties as delegated by the Management
